Why did you declare the SDM?
I declared my sophomore year after taking Environmental Ethics and Exploring Sustainability (SUST 401), which helped me understand the opportunities a sustainability dual major would provide.
What were some advantages of the SDM?
The SDM led me to participate in the B Impact Clinic, where I assisted a small Maine business in assessing their environmental and social impacts. I was able to have real world consulting experience to discuss in interviews, which helped me get jobs such as a Legislative Intern for Senator Maggie Hassan in Washington, DC, and a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Fellowship with the NH Judicial Branch.
These experiences led me back to the UNH Sustainability Institute my senior year, participating in the B Impact Clinic as a peer mentor, and as a STARS Intern helping to with UNH’s STARS recertification.
Biggest take-away?
Without becoming part of the SDM I wouldn’t have had the access to so many amazing experiences and opportunities. It has fit so well with my Political Science primary major, and I believe that upon graduating, the two majors paired together, will open up many career opportunities for me.
